46k-Mile 1991 Porsche 911 Turbo
Presentation
This 1991 Porsche 911 Turbo was specified in Satin Black Metallic over white draped leather with Exclusive contrast piping by its original owner, who kept it until its second steward purchased it in 1995. It resided with them for a total of 31 years and now shows 46k miles. Then, it was acquired from them in 2026 by the selling dealer, who commissioned paint correction and an interior detail. Power is provided by a turbocharged 3.3-liter flat-six linked with a five-speed manual transaxle and an optional limited-slip differential. The car rides on 17″ Cup wheels and is further appointed with a sunroof, a fixed rear spoiler, power-adjustable front seats, and a Porsche CD-2 stereo. This 964 Turbo is offered in California by the selling dealer with the owner’s manual, a stamped maintenance booklet, service records, workshop manuals, magazines, a tool kit, a clean Carfax report, and a Wisconsin title.
Introduced in 1990, the 964 Turbo featured widened bodywork when compared to the standard 964 as well as aerodynamic side mirrors and a fixed rear spoiler. This example is finished in Satin Black Metallic and is equipped with a power sunroof, a rear window wiper, and fog lights. In September 2026, paint correction was performed and paint-protection film stone guards were installed.
The 17″ Cup wheels feature full-color Porsche-crest center caps and are mounted with Continental ExtremeContact Sport02 tires that were installed in 2025. The Turbo features uprated brakes compared to the standard 964, including larger calipers and cross-drilled rotors at each corner. The wheels were touched up in September 2026, and the brake fluid was flushed in preparation for the sale.
The power-adjustable front seats are upholstered in white draped leather with Exclusive contrast piping, and the center console and door panels are color-coordinated. Further interior details include a Porsche CD-2 stereo, automatic climate control, and power windows. The interior was detailed in September 2026, and the air-conditioning system was recharged recently, at which time a window switch was replaced.
The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a central tachometer as well as a 180-mph speedometer and gauges for oil pressure, oil temperature, oil level, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 46k miles.
The turbocharged 3.3-liter flat-six was factory rated at 315 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. The intercooler tube was replaced in September 2026, and an oil change was carried out in preparation for the sale.

Here are some outdoor shots in different lighting. The paint is stunning—the color takes on different hues as the light changes. It really has a cool look of its own.

@Brutus143 It's a beautiful black and definitely not as dark as Basalt Black Metallic. It has a lot of metallic flake to it, and the way it changes depending on the lighting is really something special. It's a much lighter black, and sometimes I catch hints of purple, while other times it takes on a metallic brown or charcoal/graphite appearance. Despite the name, it's actually a gloss metallic finish, not matte or satin like modern matte PPF. It really has a unique look of its own, and no two lighting conditions seem to bring out quite the same color. It's one of those paints you really have to see in person to appreciate!

Appreciate the detailed breakdown and clarification! Always great to have knowledgeable Porsche enthusiasts contributing to the discussion.
You're correct that the Light Grey/Black interior was a factory-available combination, and we certainly don't want to misrepresent that.
Regarding the Porsche Exclusive/Sonderwunsch terminology, from my research and discussions within the Porsche community, the two are closely related, with Porsche Exclusive essentially evolving from the earlier Sonderwunsch program. The car does have documented Exclusive options, including the contrasting leather seat piping.
As for the exterior color, I actually have some additional documentation from the Porsche dealer who sold the car. In the original handwritten sales notes, the dealer specifically identifies the exterior as “Paint to Sample.” Satin Black Metallic (L729) was an earlier Porsche color and was not part of the standard 1991 964 Turbo color palette, which supports its special-order status. I've attached photos of those records along with the factory build information.
Regardless of the terminology, I think what makes this particular 964 Turbo special is the combination of the unusual factory exterior color, documented Exclusive options, and its ownership and detailed history. It's certainly not a combination you come across very often.
Thanks again for the insight and kind words!

The interior code of QF on the hood sticker represents a std N/C color option of Light Grey (Linen Grey) with the black dash, kneebar, garnish rails and steering wheel. So it isn't a special order "white" special wishes interior. In addition to the color combo, the code of QF also incorporates all the leather interior parts that were std on the turbo, including the console, kneebar, etc. The 09991 code merely states the car has one or more Exclusive options on the car; in this case the XD4 colored Porsche crest center wheel caps and the XR7 rear window washer system, which as stated caused the car to be diverted to the Exclusive Dept (09981) for installation of the jet washer system. The X-options were offered by the Exclusive Dept but I wouldn't say the car was "ordered through the Sonderwunsch program" since that program essentially didn't exist after 1986. It was changed to Exclusive Manufacture in 1986 where the program changed to offering an extensive list of Exclusive options that were set by the Exclusive Department. It was distinctly different from the Sonderwunsch Program. The car merely has two X-options and a Z-code option of the seat piping. I would agree, the color was not a std color, so fairly rare for the model. Not taking anything away from this beautiful 964 Turbo that presents as exceptionally well cared for, but I think the listing should be clarified as to the std interior color and what the codes imply. The car was ordered through the regular dealer process with a few Exclusive Dept options and one upcharge interior option (Z-code for the seat piping) checked off on the order. GLWTA

Color reminds me of Basalt black metallic. How low of a sheen does it have? Similar to matte PPF of today?

Hello All,
Very excited to offer this VERY SPECIAL 1991 Porsche 911 Turbo, finished in Satin Black Metallic over White leather. Satin Black metallic was a special order color for the 964 turbo in 1991. This is not your average 964 Turbo. It was ordered through Porsche’s Sonderwunsch / Special Wishes program, which at the time was the highest level of factory customization Porsche would offer its most exclusive customers. Today you can order all kinds of crazy Porsche Exclusive stuff, but back then this was very rare. This car has some great special-order details, including 10471, which specifies black leather piping on the front and rear seats, along with 09991. Between the color, the interior, and the way the car was ordered, it is a very unusual spec. The bigger story though is the ownership and documentation. The same owner had the car from 1995 onward, and this really was his baby. He drove it, showed it, maintained it, and kept absolutely everything. Every phone call with him turned into an hour because he knew every little detail about the car and cared deeply about it. We have records from new, a fully stamped service book, and documentation for basically every little thing that was done to the car. It is one of the most complete and well-preserved original 964 Turbos we have ever come across. When we got the car, it was already extremely nice well kept and maintiained. We still went the extra mile with the detailing and presentation because we wanted the car to show as well as the history deserved. That is really what makes this one special to me: Sonderwunsch spec, long-term ownership, incredible preservation, and a paper trail from day one. As always, PPIs and in-person inspections are welcomed and encouraged. Please reach out through the Contact Seller button as early as possible if you would like to arrange one. Happy to answer any questions throughout the auction. Best of luck to all bidders, and thank you for checking out this very special 964 Turbo!

Definitely agree that the paint color was not a std color in '91 and I think I emphasized that in my earlier comment. I believe it first showed up on the 924 and 944 for the '87 and '88 MYs, then was for certain offered later on the 964 as a special metallic color in '92 MY and possibly earlier (documentation is incomplete that I can find). But even if it wasn't on their special paint offering list in '91 MY, you could always order an earlier MY Porsche color (from any of their models) as a PTS. And first let me say that the differences in the Sonderwunsch and the Exclusive programs won't make a bit of difference in where this car hammers. It is a highly sought after model and in excellent condition that was well cared for in a unique color. Personally, I think that Linen or Light Grey is the best grey Porsche has ever offered and wish they would have kept it instead of introducing Classic Grey. I just felt that clarity on the interior color as well as how the car was ordered was pertinent to a bidder, especially at the prices these cars are now trading for.
You are correct in stating the Exclusive program came out of the Sonderwunsch program, but they are indeed quite different. I have not seen, from official sources, the specific reason for the change at the time but my guess is that Porsche wanted to encourage the ordering of more options (options are highly profitable for them), so they offered a long list of Exclusive Dept options to encourage buyers to order them. Let's just say it worked. Each generation after the change saw significant increases in option orders. Most notably the 993 over the 964, but the 996 experienced a substantial increase in Exclusive Dept option orders. Also, the fact that Porsche starting in 2021 revived the Sonderwunsch Program and expanded it to a large marketing division for a more bespoke buyer experience, while keeping the Exclusive Manufacture program speaks to their differences.
However, for clarity I think that some of the background info you supplied in the picture below needs to be addressed just for general information purposes. I would start off by advising that much of the search results online for these older models is full of bad info and it is unfortunate that too many rely on them. These searches merely scrape the internet and regurgitate that info, whether incorrect or not, without getting better info from official sources, which is often scarce unfortunately. For example, the VIN Analytics build sheet you supplied (which supports the hood sticker info as would be expected) correctly states that the 09981 line instruction code is precisely for the instruction to remove the car from the regular production line and transfer it to the Exclusive Department for finishing (the wording is clear). This is due to the inclusion of one or more Exclusive options (X-options) on the build. This code is only found on some cars that MUST ALSO have the 09991 code obviously, as this code merely states that the car has one or more Exclusive department options on it. Notice your internet search results for these two code definitions has the info completely opposite from the build sheet. It is just wrong. The build sheet is correct. It reinforces my argument about bad internet search results.
Furthermore, we often see cars with just the 09991 code while the 09981 code is not present. That is because in many instances the chosen Exclusive Dept options did not warrant the car being diverted off the regular production line to install those X-options as those particular X-options were stocked on the regular production line (for convenience as well as production cost purposes). The best examples of these are Carbon Fiber, Rootwood or Aluminum shift knobs and handbrakes. You often see cars with just those X-options listed with only the 09991 code but not the 09981 code as there was no need to divert the car off the line to install those. Further proving that the 09981 code, as correctly stated on the build sheet, is the specific instruction code for diverting the car off the line to the Exclusive Dept for finishing, when warranted. In the case of this car, it certainly wasn't the colored Porsche Crest center wheel caps (another item stocked on the regular line) that caused it to be diverted to the Exclusive Dept, but rather the rear washer jet cleaning unit. Had it not had this option (XR7), it would not have had the 09981 code, just the 09991 code for the center caps.
