Presentation

This 1965 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was utilized in various HSR and VARA events after it was modified for racing under previous ownership in 2014. The modified 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors and is linked to a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in Carmen Red, the car rides on 15″ American Racing wheels and additional build details include a fiberglass hood with integrated rally lights, polycarbonate windows, a roll cage, a fire suppression system, a 22-gallon fuel cell, and GAZ adjustable shocks. The cockpit houses Ultra Shield aluminum racing seats with harnesses, a quick-release Grant steering wheel, and AutoMeter gauges. This XKE Series I coupe was acquired by the current owner on BaT in June 2025 and is now offered on dealer consignment by a BaT Local Partner at no reserve with service records, spare parts, and a Montana title in the name of the owner’s LLC.

During the aforementioned build, the car was fitted with a fiberglass rally-style hood with integrated driving lights, and the bumper mounts were removed before a repaint in Carmen Red. Additional details include mud flaps, polycarbonate rear and side windows, and switches for battery cut-off and fire suppressant mounted ahead of the windshield.

Black-finished 15″ alloy American Racing wheels feature polished rims and are mounted with Toyo Proxes RA1 tires measuring 225/50, while a matching spare is housed in a rally-style mount in the cargo area. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. GAZ adjustable shocks have been added.

Inside the cockpit, the Ultra Shield aluminum racing seats wear gray fabric covers and are equipped with RaceQuip harnesses. Additional equipment includes an aftermarket shifter, a race radio, helmet pouches, and a roll cage with padding. The seller notes that various pieces of safety equipment are out of date.

The Grant steering is mounted to a quick-release hub and fronts instrumentation comprising a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and an AutoMeter tachometer and auxiliary gauges as well as a Monit G-200 rally computer and a Sportline stopwatch. The five-digit odometer shows 89k miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership.

@dhufford Thanks for the careful observations. I checked with our photographer, who drove the car for the video. He reports that the right turn signal self-cancels when the wheel returns to center, but the left does not and requires manual cancellation. That clarifies our earlier statement about the indicators working: both operate, but the left side self-cancelling function is not currently operational. Regarding the choke, the car came with the instruction tag pictured here, which specifies “CHOKE 1/4–1/2 UP.” Our photographer followed that setting and left it there during the drive. The current owner says he generally did the same based on those instructions but, admittedly, hasn’t experimented extensively with the settings over the limited miles he's added. The tag describes the starting sequence and doesn’t specifically instruct leaving the choke partially applied once warm, but it explains the setting you see in the video.
Oct 20, 2026 · 18:31
@seller - is there a reason why the choke is left partially on for the driving video? It looks like it's set at about the halfway point and never gets put in the "Run" position.
Oct 20, 2026 · 18:28
@seller - The driving video doesn't show the turn signals resetting. The video seems to jump cut to them after being reset. Is this an issue with self-canceling, or was this just something in how the video was edited? Referring to these times in the driving video - 1:15-1:19 and 2:10-2:13

Just over 24 hours to go! Here’s a cold-start video to add a little soundtrack to your Monday. Thanks so much for all the questions coming in. A few more answers below, along with additional photos of the rear compartment. For those following along, now's a good time to remind everyone to spend some time with the full gallery and earlier comments, as we’ve covered quite a few details throughout the week. The previous auction also has useful photographs, videos, and discussion that supplement what we’ve shared here. Happy to help with anything that remains unclear! @Octobermoon Both the current owner and we have filled the fuel cell directly through the rear hatch. This involves releasing the spare-tire carrier, lifting the spare, and accessing the filler beneath the fuel-cell cover. We have not used the fitting inside the original exterior fuel door to fill it. @skid22 Thanks for pointing everyone toward those photos. We supplied rear compartment photographs with our submission, but they didn’t make it into the published gallery somehow. I’ve added them here. Our photos show the spare and cover in place; photos 334–340 from the previous auction remain the better reference for the exposed fuel cell and filler access. @kippharv We don’t have a dyno sheet or a verified horsepower figure, so I don’t want to give you a guess. It certainly feels strong on the road. The previous seller reported an engine rebuild in late 2014 or early 2015 ahead of the 2015 Chihuahua Express, and approximately 300 miles since that rebuild as of the June 2025 auction. The current owner has added fewer than 200 miles since then. That supports limited reported use, but we don’t have a complete engine-use log to definitively say “one race and a couple hundred street miles.”
@Bel_Air_1 Yes, polycarbonate side windows are installed in the car. The previous seller specifically confirmed that the driver and passenger windows move up and down. No separate set of original glass side windows is included.

Pic 86 looks like a vent. If you go to the first auction and look at the last six pics (336-341) you can see the fuel fill area. @seller didn’t post any pics of the boot area on this auction for some reason.

Happy Sunday, everyone. Hope you’ve all enjoyed the weekend so far! Good news for those asking about the spares: the owner has located all of the additional parts from the previous sale, and they’re included with the car. Photos attached. The carburetor close-ups show a Weber 45 DCOE 152 marking, for anyone wondering about size. The photos also show the intake manifold and linkage, air-filter components, and tubular headers. These join the previously confirmed steel bonnet wearing #65, spare transmission, exhaust, and spare tire. @Octobermoon The car takes normal premium pump gas with the currently installed SU carburetors. Here in Colorado, that's 91-octane. The blue light you're referring to is associated with the engine fan, as seen in photo #226, but I'm not sure that it can be turned off independently. We do not have any FIVA papers among the supplied documentation. @fletch_cars We haven’t performed a new compression test during this auction preparation. In our driving, the engine has run very strongly, and that's here at Denver’s altitude. The June 2025 auction does include compression test photographs and discussion, however, and the previous seller stated that those readings were taken on a completely cold engine without a wet test. Keep in mind, less than 200 miles have been added since then. Please take a look at that material alongside our current photographs and driving video. @geopar No bumpers were included in the previous sale, and none are included here. The historic racing paperwork records a transponder number, but we haven’t verified whether a transponder remains installed or functional today.

Thanks for the questions, everyone. A few answers together:
@kyleawestbrook We haven’t identified a separate fuel-level gauge. The previous auction’s fuel-cell photo shows handwritten gallon references corresponding to the fuel’s height relative to the internal foam, suggesting the level was checked visually through the filler. The records include a January 25, 2013 Harrison Auto Dynamics invoice listing an Enduro racing fuel cell and its installation, mounts, and cover fabrication. We haven’t verified a manufacture date on the cell itself or found documentation of a subsequent replacement. @Octobermoon Yes, the lights, indicators, horn, and wipers all function as they should. I’ll upload photographs tomorrow showing the front lights in operation, along with a photo of the horn under the hood. @Babadawv Thank you for the compliment and for sharing your experience with E-Type fit. Your point about the seats, cage, and helmet clearance is well taken. I believe these racing seats sit lower than the original seats would, although I haven’t measured that comparison. The cage’s placement relative to the driver’s head also deserves a closer look before we draw conclusions about helmet clearance. I’m comfortable at 5′8″, and the previous seller reported a comfortable fit for a 6′1″ driver, but we haven’t verified fit for someone 6′4″ wearing a helmet. We recognize that visiting isn’t practical for many bidders, and we’re happy to provide specific measurements or photographs if it's helpful. The steel bonnet wearing #65 is included and was described as original by the previous seller, although we haven’t independently established its originality. The installed engine is a replacement, and no additional engine is included. Regarding the transmission, the March 25, 2014 Medatronics invoice identifies it as a JT5 Model S close-ratio five-speed, specifying a 2.43:1 first gear and 0.80:1 overdrive fifth. The invoice does not list the intermediate ratios. The previous seller also confirmed that the close-ratio gearbox is the unit installed in the car.

@mech8T8 asked: "Could this work for a 6’4” driver? Concerned about head clearance to the roll cage in conjunction with height and fore/aft/rake of seat base and seat back."
I don't want to interfere with the Seller's correspondence. Having said that, I'm very tall ( 6'6" ) and own two E Types. There are things one can do to fit into an unmodified E Type. With the roll bar in place and aftermarket seats, it's anyone's guess what height driver may comfortably or, more importantly, safely fit. Clearance for a helmet on a 6'4" driver would likely constitute a Serious safety problem. May I suggest a visit in person if that's even *remotely* possible? I've had difficulties with cars I've purchased without trying on for size, and it's not pleasant to regret such a purchase. @Seller GLWTA This is a GREAT LOOKING car. Is the original nose long gone? and the numbers matching engine? Thank You

@99779977 - The accompanying paperwork points to a Mangoletsi throttle pedal and twin cable conversion. Its literature describes adjustment of the accelerator pedal’s position relative to the brake pedal, which may help accommodate individual preferences. We’re identifying this setup from the supplied records and haven’t personally verified every component or its available adjustment. We haven’t found documentation of the pedal box being widened or the brake and clutch pedals being relocated, so we can’t confidently promise any specific clearances. The previous seller reported that a 6′1″ driver fit comfortably and drove the car, which provides useful context on overall accommodation. While an in-person fit check is ideal for these questions, we realize most bidders can’t make time to visit during the auction window. If helpful, we’ll work on getting more pedal-area photos and useful spacing measurements to help you assess the fit remotely. In the meantime, photo #241 is the best reference.

What, if any modifications have been made to/in the pedal box? Normally not a comfortable place for size 11+, or E size feet.

@mech8T8 - Great questions. I’m 5′8″, and while getting in and out of an E-Type always takes a little maneuvering, I personally find there’s plenty of room once seated, both at the legs and seatback. For another reference, the previous seller reported that a 6′1″ driver fit comfortably and that the seat and pedals offered adjustment. At 6′4″ it might be snug, but with the right adjustments it could still work. If we have anyone in your height range around the garage soon I'll conduct some testing ;)
The car runs your standard premium pump gas. Here in Colorado that's 91 with the car’s current SU-carbureted street/rally setup.

Welcome everyone! This is one we’ve been looking forward to sharing, and we’re excited to spend the week introducing you to this incredible and unique XKE. Offered at NO RESERVE, it brings together the iconic silhouette of a Series I coupe with documented competition history and a driving experience that leaves a serious impression and smile. Big thank you to @shallowguy @drako13 @khekiman @FOLLOWEROFJRSUSCHRIST @Michael_Strauss for getting us underway. The first thing I want everyone to know is that this Jaguar has been registered and enjoyed on the street. Its 1965 model year also qualifies for emissions exemptions in many states, including California, though interested bidders should confirm their local registration and equipment requirements. The previous seller reported 21 years of Arizona licensing and insurance, and the current owner holds Montana registration while enjoying it sparingly on Colorado roads. I have driven it myself, and that is what makes this car especially exciting: you get to feel its competition character on an ordinary drive. A short trip becomes an occasion. Just make sure you get used to the attention. There’s something very special about getting behind the wheel of an E-Type that has spent part of its life doing exactly what its appearance suggests. The stripped racing cabin, the incredible sound, and the involvement of the five-speed all contribute to the experience, and I found it surprisingly comfortable and enjoyable on the road. Then there’s the story behind the names still on its doors: Ralph Carungi and Bill Richert. The accompanying archive places the red #65 coupe in historic racing during the early 2000s. A February 2005 Phoenix Historic Festival result records Carungi driving the Jaguar to tenth overall. Richert appears throughout the preparation invoices and is identified as owner in 2014 paperwork. Carungi and Richert also competed together in Mexican rallies in a Lincoln, and the previous seller described how lessons learned there informed the Jaguar’s later preparation. By 2015, this XKE was participating in the Chihuahua Express - a prominent three day open road stage rally and auto race covering roughly 1,000 total miles. Its current SU carburetors, resonated exhaust, and street/rally configuration reflect that evolution and their marks remains visible throughout the car and in the records that accompany it. The spare steel bonnet still wearing #65 offers a tangible connection to its earlier track appearances. The owner has also located the spare exhaust, tire, and transmission. We’re continuing to confirm the remaining items shown in the previous auction and will update everyone as that inventory comes together. And though we don’t have a dyno result or documented horsepower figure for this engine, I can tell you it sounds and feels very healthy. The previous seller was asked the same question and confirmed that output had not been measured. Ultimately, there’s only so much a written description can convey about the experience in a car like this, but if you followed its June 2025 sale, you’ll instantly recognize it. The current owner has added fewer than 200 miles and reports no substantial changes beyond the documented October 2025 cooling-system service. We encourage you to revisit the previous auction’s photographs, videos, and detailed comment thread, along with the write up and gallery presented here. We’ll be adding more photographs and videos throughout the auction, including driving footage, a cold start, and walkarounds. We have the coming week to explore this Jaguar together and answer your questions and at the finale, with NO RESERVE, someone here will take it home and begin its next chapter. I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes!

I too really appreciate cars like this, a celebration and modern day continuation of the marques completion record. I’m drawn to cars that proved their mettle in a competition settings. Why I own a TR3B, a C5 Z06. Can you imagine tinkering under the hood of this beauty, tuning ,synchronizing the carbs, looking for that last hidden horse power? The fun of ownership would be the driving AND working on the car. No OBD, no computers, no digital (or very little). PURE. Love this. GLETA
