Presentation

This 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB is one of approximately 800 fiberglass-bodied vetroresina examples produced between 1975 and 1977. It is powered by a 2.9-liter quad-cam V8 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and is finished in Argento Auteuil Metallizzato over Nero leather. Equipment includes a limited-slip differential, 14″ five-spoke alloy wheels, pop-up headlights, a quad-exit exhaust system, a Blaupunkt stereo, air conditioning, a gated shifter, and electric windows. Since 2025, the front brake calipers have been rebuilt, and the timing belts, alternator, and spark plugs have been replaced. This 308 GTB vetroresina is offered by the selling dealer, a BaT Local Partner, with service records, a tool kit, manufacturer’s literature, and a California title.

The 308 GTB was introduced at the 1975 Paris Motor Show and featured Pininfarina-styled bodywork. Just 808 fiberglass-bodied vetroresina cars were produced by Carrozzeria Scaglietti before the switch to steel body panels in June 1977. The car is finished in Argento Auteuil Metallizzato, is believed to have been refinished, and features pop-up headlights, a driver-side mirror, a vented decklid, and quad exhaust outlets.

The silver 14″ five-spoke alloy wheels are mounted with Michelin tires that have 2017 and 2018 date codes. The car features a fully independent suspension with double wishbones front and rear, and stopping power is provided by ventilated discs at each corner. The front brake calipers were rebuilt in 2025.

The cockpit features bolstered seats trimmed in Nero leather upholstery along with matching door panels. Equipment includes air conditioning, a cassette stereo, electric windows, and a gated shifter with a dogleg gear pattern.

The leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel fronts Veglia instrumentation including a 180-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 7,700-rpm redline, and supplementary gauges. Supplementary readouts in the cluster, along with additional gauges to the left of the steering wheel. The five-digit odometer shows 15k miles.

The mid-mounted 2.9L quad-cam V8 is equipped with four twin-choke Weber 40DCNF carburetors and was factory rated at 237 horsepower. The spark plugs and alternator were replaced in 2025, and a timing belt service was completed in 2026.

@LotusSutra, don't rule out black Mondial's with Tan interior. The look more like a Ferrari than the Red ones, as does the silver. Consider the latest model T.

Wonderful. I love the steering wheel on those 77’s. I am now looking for a Mondial in Argento to drive the grandchildren in ;)

Fantastic! Well bought and looks like a great example. I come from a time well before when these cars had to have the alluring description, "vetroresina," made up to indicate their special qualities. To us, they were simply "fiberglass" cars, at least in the US. My first ride in one was forty-three years ago, with a tall, willowy brunette at the wheel, Lane Williamson, going 125 or 130 miles per hour around the oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with my shoe soles leaving an imprint in the carpet every time she showered down on the brake pedal for the Road Course Turn 1, a seriously tricky corner bordered on both sides by eight foot tall concrete walls! Her car was Giallo Fly, continuing in the interesting and flattering colors for the early GTB's. Made an impression to a young, 24 year old aspiring F-car mechanic. There were about a half a dozen of these cars I was able to service over that time, and I was always impressed with the sprightly performance and finish quality of these cars. I've watched this with interest and few cars will provide the value this one does for this price, for sure in the F-car universe. Bravo!

@Tim_M this 308 is an amazing condition for a 76 and a 308 GTB. The records we have are loaded and miles follow through the years. Chassis has all original finishes (no dry ice cleaning or altering) and clean. When you look at the interior all the carpets are original. It still has the delivery plastic on the door pockets #36, #122, #89 brake pedal and gas pedal, minimal wear. All delivered emissions items intact, the engine bay and original plating present. Minimal chipping and wear on front grille, switch gear etc. All signs of a low mile example. Thanks

A couple questions below where I'm not sure a full answer was given - based on your inspection and lifelong knowledge of cars like this, are you fully confident that -
- it really is 15K miles (not asking about the title, just the condition/service records)
- has no structural rust on the frame?
Oct 14, 2026 · 14:18
Please, bare with me if this has already been asked, went through the comments and couldn't find it:
- was there any compression test done?
- are windows and AC operational?

Lovely car. I wondered about the weight difference, too. These posted figures seem the result of direct observation and therefore more believable.
I have a later 308 GTB- we did the bumpers, too, although we elected to just replace the front one, and move the rear one inwards. No question they look better with the bumpers moved in closer.
Interestingly, and only tangentially related to this, there is a complete set of Vetro body panels for sale in CA. How that occurred I have no idea. They would make a hell of a decoration for someone's man cave, though.
Oct 13, 2026 · 21:40
Vetroresinas are the holy grail of 308s.
I am lucky to own one myself. I love the history of these cars with fiberglass at the start while Scaglietti steel tooling caught up. There are little differences like the A pillar joins and the clean look of no rain gutters on these cars. The original Pininfarina shape in its purest rawest form....
Great this is a California car as well for some bidders.

Thanks for the explanation of the additional switch. I have a couple switches added also but chose to mount them under the dash instead. @Bergman the interior is original and has normal wear for a 50 year old car. It has not been dry iced. @ Tim_M If you look closely you can still see some of the yellow cosmoline present on chassis and control arms etc. The hidden chassis components has zero difference over a steel car. Technology available, like borescopes etc to look over items. This example has very clean chassis points and apparent from past owners car. Details like all the original plating in the engine bay and overall cleanliness of this Vetro shows lots of care. Thanks
@gdapron It sure is, most important it drives amazing! Switch was for the Blaupunkt stereo which has been disbaled by the p/o. Thanks

@Bergman - I have only weighed the difference between a stock US Vetroresina and my US '77 steel car when it was close to stock. The actual value was 46 lbs.! The only comparison that could get close to 300 lbs. is a Euro Vetroresina vs. a US steel car because of the thermoreactor muffler, air pumps, bumpers, and crash reinforcement. My US '77 now weighs a lot less (2,700 lbs) due to no pumps, euro ansa exhaust, aluminum radiator, and quite a bit of other little things!
Bergman
Oct 4, 2026 · 23:44
@gdapron - How about weight compared to a steel Euro car (without heavy US bumpers, muffler etc)?
Bergman
Oct 4, 2026 · 22:30
This looks like a really nice fiberglass example. It looks exceptional underneath, not sure if any dry ice cleaning has been done, but it looks gerat. The colour really works on a 308. However, the drivers seat looks like a lot more than 15,000miles. Maybe the owners have just sat in it rather than driving. @MikeFiftyNine - You are not out of the woods with rust on a Vetroresina. In his video series on Tyrrell's Classic Workshop, classic car expert Iain Tyrrell highlights a surprising reality: early fiberglass-bodied Ferrari 308 GTB (Vetroresina) models can suffer from severe, hidden chassis rust. Even though the exterior body panels are made of lightweight fiberglass and cannot rust, the structural foundation underneath is made of steel. Because this steel frame is heavily encased by the fiberglass body, severe corrosion often goes completely unnoticed until the car is entirely stripped down for restoration.

Awesome car! Although the whole "light weight" thing is a fallacy! US Vetroresina's are only about 50-75 lbs. lighter than a comparable US '76-'77 steel car ;) I have weighed them.

That exhaust needs to be on the shelf, not the car. Order the TUBI or the Euro Ansa, it'll save you over 100 ibs at the rear and all that intense heat. Thermal Reactor is what they're called and that's what they do. AMHIK

Glass 308 that's not RED with 35k on the clock ? If those wheels are the lighter Mag/alloy version and the Rockers are solid, then you hae yourself a genuine Honey Hole ....

@MikeFiftyNine the Vetro cars are indeed rare. Roughly a 100 US cars and not many California delivered. This one has almost every emissions item intact including the exhaust. Almost impossible to see. At roughly 300lbs lighter the minute you drive one you discover the difference right away. Thanks

On Classic.Com's website they show only 5 listed for sale not including this one yet. All listed just within the past few months. And only 2 of the 5 are in the US. The other 3 are in various European countries and in Dubai. None in the US are even close to the miles on this one. Only the 2 Europe ones have slightly less miles. Highly collectible and rare looking at past transactions. GLWTA!

Wow, this 308 still looks good for 52 years old. What a find. Remarkable condition. Beautiful color and from what I looked up rare as rare can get. Looks like another 308 GTB, but you find another Vetroresina anytime soon for sure. GLWTA! I wasn't familiar with it so I looked it up, and from Silodrome's website:
"The 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina is an exceptionally rare collector car, with total production estimates widely agreed by historians like Marcel Massini to be around 712 units, though some factory records suggest up to 808 units."
Production Rarity Breakdown
• Total Global Production: Estimated at 712 to 808 fiberglass-bodied berlinettas before Ferrari switched to heavier steel panels. • Right-Hand Drive: Only about 154 units were built in right-hand drive configuration. • North American Export: Roughly 100 units were originally exported to the United States. • Body Style: Exclusively built as a fixed-roof berlinetta; the Targa-roof GTS variant never received a fiberglass body
Why It Is Valued
• Weight Savings: The hand-laid fiberglass (vetroresina) body makes the car roughly 300 to 331 pounds lighter than later steel-bodied 308 GTBs, significantly enhancing its agility and performance. Rust Immunity: Unlike later models, these fiberglass shells will never suffer from traditional body rust. Market Value: Due to their scarcity and collectibility, they command a substantial price premium over steel 308s
