Presentation

This 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 stands as the marque’s first series-production four-seat grand tourer, combining Pininfarina styling and period-modified Colombo V12 power. Developed with the benefit of Ferrari’s earliest wind-tunnel testing, its elegant proportions incorporated a longer wheelbase, distinctive front fender vents, and a spacious cabin without compromise to its sporting character. Chassis 4221 is one of approximately 300 SIII examples produced, originally finished in Grigio Argento (Silver Grey) over Rosso Connolly leather. Documented as a left-hand-drive European-delivery example, it was previously sold by Otto Zipper Motors of Los Angeles, according to the Barchetta Registry. Subsequently refinished in Black over Green leather upholstery, this Ferrari has benefited from long-term collector ownership in California.

Beneath the hood, the car shares DOHC 3.3-liter Tipo 226 displacement with the legendary 275 GTB/4. This desirable departure from its former 3.0-liter V12 adds substantial performance, mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Additional mechanical highlights include four-wheel disc brakes, dual exhaust outlets, and 15-inch Borrani wire wheels. Inside, the Green leather cabin retains its traditional grand touring character with a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Veglia instrumentation and dashboard clock, and a period Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. Together, these appointments and elegant Pininfarina coachwork complete the car’s distinctive presence and capability.

Now residing in Torrance, California, chassis 4221 is accompanied by an ignition key set, factory literature, and California black license plates. With its upgraded Tipo 226 V12 powertrain and handsome Black-over-Green presentation, this 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series III presents a paramount opportunity for the collector seeking a characterful Italian coupe ideal for vintage/historic rallies and touring.

Please note that in our sellers disclosure statement questions # 3, 9 & 10 we have the engine described at a 275 GTB/4 four cam and it is not, its a 275 GTB/2 two cam with 3 x twin choke Weber carbs and not 6 x Weber carbs. Our mistake.
