Presentation

This 2018 BMW M2 was modified under prior ownership as a track car, and it is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six equipped with a Dinan turbocharger and exhaust system and linked to a seven-speed M DCT dual-clutch transmission and an Active M limited-slip differential. The car wears a Plasti Dip livery with vinyl lettering along with a carbon fiber rear wing, a rear diffuser, a front splitter, and polycarbonate rear windows. It rides on 18″ Apex wheels with MCS adjustable dampers, and the interior houses a roll bar, Sparco and MOMO seats with harnesses, a KMP steering yoke, and an AP Racing pedal box. Additional equipment includes a Do88 cooling system, a secondary water pump, a Chicane Motorsport ECU tune, an E-stopp electronic parking brake, and a carbon-fiber center console. This F87 track car is now offered in Colorado with spare wheels and other parts, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Montana title in the name of the seller’s LLC.

The M2 features revised bodywork compared with the contemporary F22 2-Series including flared wheel arches, a trunk lid spoiler, and aerodynamic front and rear bumper covers. This example wears a Plasti Dip livery with vinyl wrap on the trunk and for the lettering over Black Sapphire Metallic (475) paint, and it features a carbon-fiber wing with aluminum uprights that tie into the frame. Additional equipment includes a front splitter, a rear diffuser, LED headlights, and polycarbonate rear windows.

The car is equipped with MCS adjustable dampers, Ground Control camber plates, AP Racing by Essex CP9660 front brakes with custom brake ducting, rear Girodisc two-piece rotors, and an E-stopp electronic parking brake. Two additional sets of wheels are included in the sale.

Further appointments include a roll bar, AP Motorsport carbon-fiber door panels, a carbon-fiber center console, an AP Racing pedal box, a rearview camera, an iDrive infotainment system, navigation, Apple CarPlay connectivity, a Harman Kardon sound system, cruise control, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

The KMP quick-release steering yoke features paddle shifters and frames a 180-mph speedometer, a 7,500-rpm tachometer, and a fuel-level gauge. The digital odometer indicates 11k miles, approximately 3k of which were added under current ownership. The seller notes an intermittent turn signal error message.

The turbocharged 3.0-liter TwinPower N55B30 inline-six features double-VANOS variable valve timing and Valvetronic variable lift control. A Dinan turbocharger was installed under prior ownership along with a Do88 cooling system with a remote radiator, oil cooler, and intercooler. A secondary M5 water pump, a Bimmerworld fuel starvation kit, and a Chicane ECU tune were also added. Work in 2025 included replacing the water pump and air filter as well as changing the oil and coolant.

@banzaibulletfof I just got back from weighing the car at my mechanic. I wasn't aware but when he setup the suspension he set it up for my exact weight, you can see in the photos of empty vs with myself in the car.

I don't know the seller, but his home track is my home track. That is High Plains Raceway in Byers, Colorado (just East of Denver).
When discussing cooling and running hot, you need to take into account altitude. Cooling efficiency decreases at altitude. You lose about 3% efficiency per 1,000 ft of altitude. High Plains Raceway is at 5,054' altitude. Cooling there, even on the NA engine vehicles I race, can be a challenge on hot days. Taking my same cars down to sea-level tracks encountered no cooling challenges.

@BlackBavarian91 I honestly just want to move onto something else. I had my fun with the BMW, and I have a few more cars in mind I'd like to try next but I need the garage space first.

I love what you did with it. It looks amazing. But I have to ask… why sell such a beauty?

@Milwaukee486 My best times on high plains are all around or just below the 2 min mark. I'm sure there are plenty more seconds to find with a better driver.

Hi @BanzaiBulletFOF
1) Do you know the dry/wet weight? Unfortunately I do not, I assume it is considerably lighter than stock with all the internal components removed. I can try to get it weighed at my mechanic, but not sure if I'll be able to get that done before the sale finishes. 2) I noted coolant and fuel pump issues. Has the vehicle ever experienced overheating, “limp mode” or DCT temp warnings during track sessions? Right when I got the car my mechanic noticed it had a bad water pump, so that was quickly replaced before ever tracking the car. The fuel pump has never had an issue, the "fuel pump replaced" you see in Carfax was them installing the Bimmer World fuel starvation kit to address the issue of the split fuel tanks in BMW's. The coolant and transmission always stay cool on track, but the engine Oil did get hot (270 F) on a summer track day where outside temps were 102 degrees, and track temp was 160. I changed the oil right after and have tracked it since then on cooler days.

@JaidenN - If you could:
1) Do you know the dry/wet weight? 2) I noted coolant and fuel pump issues. Has the vehicle ever experienced overheating, "limp mode" or DCT temp warnings during track sessions? Thanks for any info! Nice M2...

Lap times any good?

@Milwaukee486 Yep, I took it there a few times in my ownership and to autocross, most of the 3k miles I put on the car however were street miles.

@bmwguy and @BanzaiBulletFOF I don't have a dyne sheet, I was never provided it as the previous owner did not have it anymore. However I was told it was a very light tune and should be around 400 Horsepower as compared to the 365 base. It was tuned after all the work was done to it (including the cat removal) as it was built out pretty much in one go. The only modifications I did in my ownership were the emergency brake, the seats and belts, tires, brake pads and rotors, and brake ducting.

@JaidenN - I'd also be interested in any dyno data you have, as well as weights.

Any dyno sheet? Were the cats removed for the tune? Great looking car and a blast to dive.

@M3_Driver I'm sure you understand the dilemma: full cage means you can't safely drive it without a helmet. For a track-lapping car...sometimes you want to keep the convenience/option/fun of driving on the street. This one went pretty far down the rabbit hole for half cage though, agreed. (also that track looks magical, like a racetrack through the Windows screen-saver meadow...)

Looks good with many desirable parts. But all that work and expense on the car and there’s only a half cage, bolt in at that?
