I own an ST3 with a dry clutch and an ST4S ABS with a wet clutch and both are great bikes. I have owned several Ducati's and I like the rattle of the dry clutch but my wet clutch ST4S is easier on the clutch hand on trips. I took the ST3 up the West coast and into Canada this summer and I just got back from a week riding the Northern Sierra passes on the ST4. The bikes handle well, are comfortable for long trips and the hard luggage held enough to easily get me through the 2 week trip to Canada. With only 9,000 miles this bike had a long life ahead of it with routine maintenance.

Whoever wins this auction won't be dissapointed. The ST series are just great bikes, and for some reason are the bargains among Ducatis.

Not exactly “cold” start but found battery dreadfully low even though on a trickle chgr. I’ll need to replace battery as charging system shows 13.8v.

@jmushock: do you have the tank bag which fastens to the bike's tank ring? If not, what type of tank bag does that ring fit?

I was unable to reset service icon. Just glare on cluster.
Oct 9, 2026 · 16:42
Does the wrench icon on the LCD display indicate service needed? Or?
Is that a scratch upper left on the display or glare? TIA

Best of the ST. More reliable than the 4 and doesn’t run out of breath at higher rpm like the 2. If only this one were in the faster yellow…

I had one, a great touring bike with real performance, LOTS of torque!

Pertinent info from a DM query:
Belts have age but few miles, same for valves, oil & filter current, hydraulics flushed 2024, tires dated 2323 rear and 3023 frt Diablo Rossi III, again few miles

I was fortunate enough to own an '04 model of this bike, and it was the favorite of four Ducs that I had owned at the time. My wife and I put about 15k miles on it over the years of ownership. Such a sweet bike, with great handling, brakes, suspension, perfect for sporty touring. The motor really has two personalities: it can putter around town at a low intensity, or scream to redline sounding like a superbike along the way. Such is the beauty of the three-valve-per-cylinder arrangement. I went with some Ferracci mufflers and the Ducati performance chip, solely for the Ducati sound. The bike doesn't need more power. Also went with two more teeth in the rear sprocket, which works better in urban riding. To my eye, this bodywork upgrade on the ST3 is more attractive than the previous generation ST2, and still looks great today.

There have been many amazing custom cafe-racer builds that used a stripped down ST3 as the starting point and core of the project. Underneath that plastic is some pretty amazing stuff, and the 3-valve engine is unique. My memory is recalling that in 2005 the bike was shipped with a wet clutch, but maybe that was actually 2006? If it has the dry clutch, all the better for this bike's place in history. My wife and I rode one of these across Tuscany back in 2010. It had an arrow exhaust fitted and an accompanying tune to the ECU, and along with the open dry clutch...what an amazing time we had! GLWTA.
