@camohatmike The dissimilar door pulls are standard on all 2002's TMK.

@Byrneout The dash mat comes with the car and has been with it for some time. Unlike most vehicles in this category, it was bought and used as a preventive piece to keep the dash from cracking, not a cover up.

In the driving video you have a dash cover on the car, but it is not in any of the still pictures. Is this new or something you removed after the driving video was shot? Great video BTW!

To my knowledge they’re identical and both have the stock handles. I will look closer when I get to the shop today.
Oct 21, 2026 · 23:59
Just curious why is one door pull different is that standard on 2002 the passenger one looks fancy, the driver's looks standard.???

@rfog good question. All of the rust that is evident has been disclosed; the black areas are not hiding any that I know of. As for the fender, my apologies, we have no knowledge of the replacement.

Looks like the left front fender was replaced. Was a factory part used?

Are the black rockers and nose panel base hiding any rust problems?

They all function normally.
Oct 18, 2026 · 21:09
@thesandman Thanks for the answer on the synchro. I have looked at a few of these and some of the common things I have seen are the heater controls not working, fan control not working, turn signal indicators not working. Can you can confirm that all of the controls are working? Thanks

Weak synchro is common on something this fun!

@syncroadventure
Yeah “noise” isn’t the best description. The synchro is getting weak. At high rpm’s and faster shifts it lightly grinds going into gear. There’s no issue engaging third, and it doesn’t pop out or exhibit any other problems.

Fantastic driving video - I know that took a lot of work with all the different camera angels.

That’s it, it’s settled. When I will finally sell my Atlantic Blue tii I’m either hiring your film guy, or hiring a CGI guy to change the color of your car to blue.
Possibly the best car for sale video I have ever seen.

@TheSandman Can you talk a little bit about the 3rd gear Syncro noise? Does it shift in to third gear fine? Maybe describe the noise. Thanks

I owned one of these for 10 years/100,000 miles. Bought with 39K and sold with 139K...for the same price I paid for it. They are wonderful! They require a lot of care and don't have AC...and shouldn't. If you set them up right, you can drive comfortably up to about 85F. The rear windows vent and you can set the heater to vent a lot of fresh air in with a slight mod. When I redid the front quarter panels, I used RTV on all the seams and bought some aftermarket liner panels that prevent road gook from getting up into the corners. That car will die from something else before those panels rust again. The soft spots are a vertical line on the front quarter just in front of the doors and up in the upper front corner around the parking lights. This one looks great so I imagine that's all been re-done. Bottom side looks good for one of these. The spare tire well is another rust area...and it looks like this one has started. The rear shock towers are also a spot to watch on any 2002. Bilsteins are a plus on this car. I had them too. 19mm bars front and rear work well and you can rotate the upper strut mount and drill one hole for more front camber...That really helps handling...Goes from amazing to OMG without punishing driver or passengers. GLWA. People. This car weighs only about 2300 lbs. and has a chassis that just loves to be tossed around. It's a huge ball of fun to drive like the video.

Fantastic A+ driving video, having driven the snot out of my 2002 for many glorious years on twisty CA backroads you really captured the feeling of putting these fantastic 2 door coupes through their paces, driven exactly as it was intended to be! To those below calling for a music soundtrack, Get outta here, the sound of the motor through that exhaust was beautiful music and all I want to hear in a spirited driving video, Bravo
Oct 12, 2026 · 07:35
Is the rust under the spare tire well in the trunk all the way through or is there an intermediate metal layer? Could you add an image from the spare tire side with the tire out?
TheSandman (The Seller)
Oct 12, 2026 · 04:06
On the tires, yes they are old and I would consider replacing them. That said, I had no issue putting the car through its paces in the driving video.
Oct 12, 2026 · 02:21
Regarding tire dates, only one of the tires has a legible date code (imprinted in the oval) as 8XE1705. The 8XE is an internal manufacturer’s code and the 1705 is the date code. So that tire was made the 17th week of 2005. Any tire manufactured after 2020 have these codes inside the oval to be DOT compliant. The other three tire date codes in the oval impressions are either worn down or strangely scored in parallel lines. Or they were made prior to 2000. I’m not familiar with why or if someone did that to hide the codes (unlikely). Safe bet is to plan on replacing all four. Any tire over 10 years should be replaced. And with one of them at 21 years I doubt the others are within 10 years. They aren’t that expensive being that size and I always want new tires. What a beautiful Tii. Can’t wait to see where this goes.

Ditto on the driving video. It needs some driving music, but other than that it's one of the best videos I've seen on this site.😎
