1961 Sunbeam Alpine Series II Race Car
Presentation
This 1961 Sunbeam Alpine Series II is a race-prepared example that is finished in green over black upholstery. Power is provided by a 1,592cc inline-four linked to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes a body-color removable fiberglass hardtop, 13″ center-lock wire wheels, front disc brakes, an ATL safety fuel cell, sliding polycarbonate windows, Rev racing bucket seats, Oreca multi-point harnesses, a roll cage, and a Lifeline fire suppression system. The current owner acquired the car in 2024. According to the seller, the vehicle is eligible for historic competitions including the Le Mans Classic. This Alpine race car is now offered in Biarritz, France, on dealer consignment with a FFSA passport, a FIA Historic Technical Passport, and a Carte Grise.
The car is finished in green and is fitted with a body-color removable fiberglass hardtop accented by a light green center stripe. Additional exterior details include a chrome front bumper and trim, taped headlights and fog lights, dual side mirrors, sliding polycarbonate windows, front and rear tow hooks, and external T-handle pull switches located on the cowl.
Silver-finished 13″ center-lock wire wheels are mounted with 175/70 Avon CR6ZZ tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The race-prepared cabin features Rev racing bucket seats trimmed in black, accompanied by matching door panels and rear cockpit trim. Equipment includes Oreca multi-point harnesses, a roll cage, an OMP electrical cutoff switch, a Lifeline fire suppression system, a rear-view camera, a passenger-side glove compartment, and an ashtray.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of a modified instrument cluster housing a 120-mph speedometer, a VDO tachometer, a VDO ammeter, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and fuel/air mixture. The five-digit odometer shows 61k kilometers (~38k miles). The speedometer is inaccurate above 100 km/h.
The 1,592cc inline-four was factory rated at 85 horsepower. The engine bay features heat-wrapped exhaust headers, and an ATL safety fuel cell is mounted in the trunk.

Not an Alpine fan, but this (!) . . . really very nice race car and nicely equiped. Too bad it's not in the states. good luck. Deserves the best.

@a_brugger: Thanks for your question. Yes, the current carte grise is still valid under the last private owner name and has been road registered since decades.

Thank you for answering the question. Could you please confirm whether the current carte grise is still valid and in the seller's name? Has the car been continuously registered for road use, or has it only been used for racing in recent years?
