26k-Mile 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster

This 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster is one of 823 US-market examples produced for the model year and was specified in Silver Metallic over black leather. It shows 26k miles and has been registered in Washington, Oregon, and Montana from new. The car remained in the original owner’s care until 2013 and was purchased by its current owner in September 2024. Power is from a 3.2-liter flat-six paired with a G50 five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes 16″ Fuchs alloy wheels, a black soft top, a fiberglass twin-hump convertible-top cover panel, power-adjustable seats, a short-throw shifter, air conditioning, and cruise control. This 911 Speedster is now offered in California on dealer consignment with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the owner’s manual, service records, a car cover, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Montana title.
The car features widened rear bodywork shared with the contemporary 911 Turbo, a fiberglass twin-hump convertible-top rear deck, and a shortened windscreen and side windows when compared to the standard Carrera. This example was finished from the factory in Silver Metallic (980), and much of the body was repainted by Canepa Design in Scotts Valley, California, in 2014. Features include a black soft top, integrated fog lights, rear bumperettes, and a single exhaust outlet. The windshield-washer pump was replaced in June 2026. Photos showing finish imperfections as well as paint-meter readings are included in the gallery.
Staggered-width 16″ Fuchs wheels are mounted with Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires, which show date codes from 2013 and 2014. Braking is handled by black Porsche-script calipers over cross-drilled rotors at all four corners. The brake fluid was flushed in June 2026.
The power-adjustable seats are upholstered in black leather and are complemented by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a short-throw shifter, air conditioning, cruise control, and a cassette stereo. The Speedster was not equipped with rear seats. An aftermarket amplifier is stationed in the rear storage compartment. The right-door release was repaired in June 2026. The removed head unit is included in the sale.
The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel was fitted in June 2026 and frames VDO instrumentation including a central tachometer with a 6,300-rpm redline flanked by a 170-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for oil temperature, oil pressure, oil level, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 26k miles, approximately 700 of which were added under current ownership.
The 3.2-liter flat-six features Bosch fuel injection and was factory rated at 215 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The oil was changed in June 2026.

Your observation and knowledge of these cars is absolutely spot on. It could not have been worded any better. Many people are not aware of how refined the 89' models are and especially with the Speedster. Driving it to and from the photo location, I was noting all of this and was very tempted to keep driving. :)

Thank you for your question. This is also a good question for Canepa to answer since they owned this Speedster. Knowing how attention to detail and meticulous they are in their restorations, I believe that it was done to bring the car up to their standard and reputation. There is no damage to the car, all gaps are correct along with a clean title and Carfax, I believe that is was repainted/ blended for cosmetic reasons. They also thoroughly went through the entire car, as they are known to do, and did some servicing as this was all that was needed to keep the car in excellent condition. My experience with the 89' Speedsters that we have sold is that the majority of them have had some sort of repainting/ blending primarily due to the wider bodywork of the cars. The wider fenders certainly attract more rock chips and scuffing while parked in the garage. This was the reasoning of the owner for the last Speedster that we sold. These cars are special and owners want them to be in excelent condition. As example of resprays/ blending, ( and I most certainly do not mean any disrespect to that car or owner but as an example) the last Speedster that you bid on in August the paint meter readings were showing that the car was resprayed/blended. The paint meter readings on that car were set in micrometers. 110 -150 micrometers equal 4.3 - 5.9 milimeters which indicate factory paint for German cars of this era. 150 - 250 microns equal 5.9 - 9.8 milimeters indication repainting. 300 - 500 microns equal 11.8 - 20 milimeters indicating body filler and repaint. Please do go back and view the Speedsters that have been sold here and on other sites just as an example, and you will see most of them have had respraying/blending or are not showing any paint meter readings at all.

I am curious as to why “most of the car” was repainted? It only has 26k miles. What happened? I have a low mileage 1989 911 and have owned 5-6 of them from the same vintage with similar miles but none were repainted. What happened?

Thank you for the kind words and questions. Our PPI was done on 6/22/20 and repairs were completed on 6/24/26. If you look at photos #416 and #417 the service order is showing that we replaced the steering wheel with the factory steering wheel. The horn works properly with the factory steering wheel back on the car. It is also showing that we replaced the fog light lens. Photos #424 #425 #426 and #427 are showing a new Blaupunkt/ Dearborn cassette radio that is included in the sale of the Speedster. Photo #410 is showing the Outboard Inventory from Canepa when they sold the car. The pump was not included at that time. Photo #419 and #420 are showing the jack and tool kit that are included with the car.

Gorgeous car! Quick question. The PPI in the files shows a few small items that the description doesn’t address as having been remediated:
Horn inop (aftermarket steering wheel installed), left fog light lens broken/chipped, aftermarket radio no sound, and the tool kit/jack noted missing. Were any of these subsequently addressed? Thanks!
