1979 International Harvester Super Scout II 345 4×4 4-Speed
Presentation
This 1979 International Harvester is said to be one of approximately 4,000 Super Scout II examples produced. This truck was produced for the Canadian market and was delivered to a dealership in Rome, and the seller believes it to be one of three Super Scouts imported to the country. They purchased the truck in 2019, and a subsequent refurbishment included refinishing the exterior, overhauling the interior, and refreshing the brake, suspension, engine, and drivetrain components. Approximately two years later. The truck is finished in International Harvester Red with a white Traveltop hardtop over black vinyl and blue and red plaid cloth. Power is provided by a 345ci V8 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a Dana 20 two-speed transfer case. Equipment includes sliding rear side windows, a roll bar, a roof rack, power steering, manually locking front hubs, front disc brakes, 15″ BWA alloy wheels, front bucket seats, a Pioneer head unit, and a Midland CB radio. This Super Scout II is now offered with a line-setting ticket, manufacturer’s literature, the owner’s manual, a registration card, service records, spare parts, and Italian registration documents.
Approximately 490 Super Scout II examples were sold in 1979, and SSII examples were equipped with a soft top, soft doors, a roll bar, windshield-mounted mirrors, and a six-slot grille. This example left the factory finished in International Harvester Red (2150) and was refinished under current ownership. Replacement gold and black decals were added, and the truck is equipped with a white Traveltop hardtop with a roof rack, metal doors, chrome bumpers, and black wheel arch extensions. The removed soft top and a bikini-style top are included in the sale.
White-finished 15″ BWA alloy wheels are mounted with Goodyear Wrangler tires. The truck is equipped with manually locking front hubs, Rancho shocks, and power steering. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes. The brakes were overhauled in 2024.
The refreshed cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench that have been re-trimmed in black vinyl with blue and red plaid centers. In addition to the seat refurbishment, the door panels and carpets were also replaced. Further interior details include a Pioneer head unit, Pioneer and Blaupunkt speakers, as well as a Midland CB radio and a heater.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a horizontal 160-km/h speedometer and gauges for temperature, oil pressure, amperage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 34k kilometers (~21k miles), approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership.
The truck is equipped with a 345ci V8. In December 2024, the carburetor was rebuilt, and the radiator, thermostat, accessory belts, and battery were replaced. An oil change was performed in March 2026.

I understand it has been repainted but could you look at the passenger side door frame near the striker and see if there’s any unique marks still showing?

SteveLewis and ArcgSail this is because during restoration I put two original metal doors and the Hard Top so that the Scout is more useable all year round, here in winter it is pretty cold. But the original SSII Soft Top complete with all fittings and a brand new Bikini top (still boxed) are included in the sale, so if you take off the Hard Top you can have the alternative of using it in both ways. The SSII door insert were badly cracked and are no more there, but I'm sure you know there is a company who makes them, apart the ones you can find secondhand.

Well, that's unusual...most of the time Scout IIs are converted to Super Scout tributes, not the other way around. I don't suppose you still have the original and highly sought after SSII door infill panels?. Either way, this is a very nice build. GLWTA

Thanks F4windex this is the result of a very long and expensive rebuild...and it runs like a clock (not an electric one). I had my first Scout in the early '80es but this is surely the best I ever owned.

Never in my wildest IHC & Alfa Romeo dreams could I top a Scout like this, that has been given an Italian spa treatment! WOW.
