Ex–Carroll Shelby 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 4-Speed
Presentation
This 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 is one of 2,048 fastbacks produced for the model year and was specified with the Extra Cooling Package, the Interior Décor and Courtesy Lighting groups, a fold-down rear seat, power steering and front disc brakes, and a heavy-duty battery. It was first delivered to City Motors in National City, California, and was won in a contest by its first owners. The car was partially restored and was owned by racer Chuck Jones in California before it was purchased by Carroll Shelby and Stephen Becker c. 1999. Shelby installed a modern air conditioning system at this time, and the car was further modified with headers for its 428ci Police Interceptor V8. The Wimbledon White fastback was acquired by its current owner in 2011 and exported to Greece, and it has since been part of a collection. It is further equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, 10-spoke 15″ aluminum wheels, and an AM/FM radio. Previously offered on BaT in May 2026, this GT500 is now offered again by the seller in Greece on behalf of its owner with an Elite Marti Report, a National Shelby Registry certificate, a Shelby Auto American Club certificate, Shelby Research Group documentation, service records, spare parts, and Greek registration.
A copy of a correspondence between Stephen Becker and SAAC Registrar Dave Matthews details the car’s history and Shelby’s acquisition, as well as subsequent modifications.
The GT500 model was equipped with a ducktail rear spoiler, fender extensions, air scoops on the sail and quarter panels, and a fiberglass ventilated hood with a ram-air scoop. This example is finished in Wimbledon White (4) with GT500 side stripes, and it was repainted in the late 1980s according to the records provided in the gallery. Photos of paint meter readings are provided in the gallery.
Aluminum 10-spoke 15″ wheels wear Shelby Cobra center caps and are mounted with BFGoodrich tires. GT500 models utilized an upgraded suspension system with heavy-duty coil springs and an anti-roll bar up front in addition to heavy-duty leaf springs out back, and Koni dampers have been fitted. The car is equipped with power steering, and stopping is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The front bucket seats and a folding Sport Deck rear seat are trimmed in black vinyl, and the seller notes the driver’s seat has been reupholstered. A roll bar and shoulder harnesses are provided for occupants along with an AM/FM radio, and Shelby had a period-style air conditioning system retrofitted in the late 1990s.
A Carroll Shelby signature appears on the glove box lid as well as the trunk floor cover.
Sold on 10/10/2026 for USD $236,000 to Jamiekirk

I would like to know where row came from when talking about shifting gears. When you row a boat your back faces the way you are traveling. When you paddle a boat you face the direction of travel. Never could figure out where this idea came from in reference to cars.

@CarFoolLane, maybe not completely deaf ears as it looks like the irrelevant road test was pulled from this sale.
Oct 10, 2026 · 15:03
IMO the real hero in this car's story is original owner Charlotte Spenner, the middle aged woman who won the car in a raffle and chose to keep & use it as her daily for over 20 yrs until the stiff clutch prevented her from doing so; a ground shaking 350 hp grocery getter, WITH a friggin' 4 Spd! Backing this thing out of a piggly wiggly parking spot with its ginormous blind spot and heavy duty clutch def took some skill. Charlotte is my kinda woman!
Carroll is an automotive icon, a legend, and his association with the car is cool, however in my mind Charlotte is the #1 badass when it comes particular GT500.
I'd love to see it come home to San Diego.

The Registrar Dave Matthews who verified that point just passed away this week. These cars that were suspiciously owned by Shelby may very well have an asterisk into the future and your comment is a fair one on a deserved premium. That is entirely in the eye of the buyer but in the broad market I would say it is questionable at best.
Oct 10, 2026 · 13:02
@Gmm The seller is including the cost of shipping, and there are no import duties/tariffs for a car that was manufactured and previously registered in the US. The bigger issue is whether the car deserves a premium for Becker's email to the Shelby registrar about the ownership history.
Oct 10, 2026 · 12:37
Very nice car and story, to bring the car back to the USA on top of all transport fees is 2.5% duty and potentially 7.5%-12.5% reciprocal EU tariffs. Global trade into the USA on Watches and cars is more tricky today than ever but it is significant enough to ensure you understand it is part of the cost

My comment from the previous listing, I think it's worth repeating here as well:
This brings back so many nice memories and a wonderful back story of family bonding, curation, preservation of important artifacts, hard work and determination. I was the one who found and imported the car back in 2011. I wanted to add an American sportscar to my collection, something to remind me of the wonderful years I spent in the States as a student. I always found the ’67 GT500s one of the sexiest American cars ever made so I decided that such a model would be a great addition to my extensive sportscar collection which back then comprised of various Ferraris, Porsches and many other ”exotic toys”. So I wanted something really special and it took me more than a year to trace the right car. I was after something as original as possible, not over-restored and with a story to match the looks. Needless to say how pleased I was when I was made aware that this particular car was offered for sale. I’ve been in touch with many experts, consulted various sources and had the car inspected in depth before pulling the trigger (this car was never ”cheap”…).
The car arrived in Greece, imported and titled to my name and of course, I invited friends and family to share my joy in my garage. My nephew came along and as soon as he saw the car he became truly emotional, I had no clue why though. He confessed that this was his dream car of all times and begged his father to try and convince me to sell it to him.
Well, my nephew happens to be one of the most brilliant students and some weeks ago, he had been admitted into the most prestigious University so he had some serious leverage with his father. He promised that he will keep this car for years and on top of that, that he will work hard, both as student and later on as a professional, to built a ”shrine” for the car, to maintain and preserve it as an artifact and not as a car and to pay back his father in full.
And this is exactly what happened, the ”garage” that you see in the photos was built (and paid) by my nephew over the course of quite a few years. It is truly something marvelous, with extreme attention to detail and no other car ever shared the same space all these years.
15 years later the young boy is an accomplished professional, father of 2 beautiful kids so the time has come to find something more suitable for all the family to enjoy and continue the family legacy. I have no doubt that the ”shrine” will be inhabited again and I will try my very best to source for him something truly special that he will again cherish for decades. Needless to say that he kept his promise and paid his father in full along the way.
So, you are not only buying ”just another Shelby”, you are buying many stories, of important (and less important) people but above all, you’re buying a young kid’s dream, a motivation that truly made him a better student, a better professional and in the end, a better father and family man. And this is priceless and the very essence of a hobby that we will truly love…
I sincerely hope that the new owner will cherish and treasure it for years, it deserves to be loved and I’m 100% sure that it will bring some very good ”karma” and continue to make many people happy…

Imagine owning a Shelby that Carroll Shelby himself actually owned. That's a pretty incredible piece of automotive history. Curious what everyone thinks — how much of a premium should his personal ownership add over an otherwise comparable '67 GT500?

For all potential bidders :
The car belongs and will be sold by a private individual not a dealer so it will be sold with a bill of sale/contract of sale. VAT is therefore neither applicable nor claimable on this sale, please check your local importation rules for classic cars imported from EU countries. The car has a valid Greek/EU registration certificate and valid TUV/MOT so it will be like importing any other EU car of this age.

@Cbcars79 Studied at HEC Lausanne and still spending plenty of time in Switzerland which I consider a second home. I would be thrilled if you buy it.
Delivery will be free of charge at the closest point of your address given that the car carrier will be able to unload the vehicle (not small streets that is).
Contacted a friend of mine who is a great lawyer at Zurich and he told me that the tax that you would have to pay is approximately 10% and that if you declare the vehicle as Veteran you would have special treatment with TUV conducted every six years, reduced annual tax etc. If you want to contact him directly please contact me through the contact seller button on the top of the page so to share his contact details

Ahhh... the "Sausage King" Shelby and life lessons learned.
First spotted this beauty parked in a dirt lot adjacent to a Buick (Peck) dealership in Pt Loma (San Diego). Unlocked, windows down, shoulder harnesses swaying in the breeze. It wasn't uncommon seeing old muscle and sports cars in Southern California in the '80s, but not wide open without a soul around... Parked, got out, peeked inside and quickly realized I was looking at a totally original, unaltered early GT500. Hung out for 20-30 minutes hoping someone would show up... but no one.
At that point I thought the car might have been stolen and abandoned - who the hell leaves a car like this unlocked in a dirt lot? I got my answer later that evening from the owner himself. Before driving away I nervously reached through the open window, opened glove compartment, and right on top was was the registration card. Jotted down owner info then beelined home. A quick search in the phone book (remember those) revealed their number and in short order, Fred "The Sausage King" Spenner was telling me not only why the car was at the Buick Dealership (getting smog cert) but how he and his wife won the car in a raffle at the Catamaran Hotel in 1967. It was his wife's daily driver until she could no longer push in the clutch. When I asked if they might be interested in selling Fred told me I wasn't the only interested party; that they had had lots of offers to buy over the years, but it was Charlotte's baby, and she wasn't quite ready to part with it at that point.
I hung up thinking if I said my prayers and ate all my vegetables that maybe, just maybe Charlotte would call asking me to come over with my checkbook. For the next 5-6 months I drove by their house stalking the 500. Most times the garage door was closed, but when it wasn't I'd see those Shelby taillights winking at me.
Called a few times during those months and was politely told, "not quite yet, we'll let you know". Hope lives! A few months later while on a routine 'drive by', there parked in the exact spot the Shelby slept all those years, was a blue Mustang fastback. I remember staring at it in a total state of confusion. Where was the Shelby? I slowly drove away in a stupor.
After one more blue mustang sighting (I now hate blue) I just knew the Shelby was gone. I called Fred later that evening and was told they were offered a very nice '67 fastback with an automatic (plus some cash) that Charlotte could drive and and they went with it. I wished them well and hung up. It took a few days for the grief to subside, but after thinking how the deal went down, I became really impressed with the buyer's creativity. Clearly Mrs Spenner loved her Mustang and really struggled with the thought of selling it. Presenting a similar car she could drive was pure genius and he was rewarded for his efforts.
So which two lessons did I learn from this experience? 1) To get creative when negotiating a purchase, and 2) always, ALWAYS buy a raffle ticket!
To anyone interested Google "Manfred Spenner Sausage King" to learn about his moniker.
GLWTA!
@jpsbgt what an amazing coincidence 🍀! May I please ask, how do you know that this was the one?

Back in the 90’s I had a 66 289 Fastback. I stopped by Classic Air to get an estimate to have A/C installed. Guess what was parked in one of the stalls ?

It is important to mention that the present listing has NO import tax to the US. Over the past years I’m always working and trust US Customs agent Mr Michael Lewis who has effortless cleared all the vehicles that I have sold in the US. He has confirmed by email that no import tax is due for that vehicle as it was already registered in the US and we have as original the past registration and he will be happy to assist the new owner of the vehicle for a smooth importation procedure. If anyone needs his credentials please contact through the contact seller button.

Appreciate the seller’s offer to include shipping cost to US. What would be the import fees if any ?

A kind Shelby fan from the Nederlands sent me those pics from 2022 Shelby registry. Most of details have been referred to the previous auction apart from the ‘broken ankle’ part.

Thank you. A great car but I agree with you 100%. Except that you and I think these are cars not NFT’s

Were the wheels balanced at Walmart? Picture 215 shows several ounces of weight 180° apart.

An absolute top rate seller and stunning Shelby with desirable 4-speed, iconic colors, and big block engine. Already an amazing combination, but on top of that the history and excellent restoration bring it all home with a car you can drive and show with confidence. The Shelby name is cemented into the automotive performance lexicon - forged in history from a time when America was going to the moon, a cupholder was your ten year old son in the passenger seat, and a TV dinner was at laptop. Behind the wheel it was all horsepower, grit, and manual shifting. Power, performance, and rarity all in one. No one did it like Shelby and we're fortunate that his cars remain today for generations of enthusiasts to enjoy today. GLWTA!!

Whoever did the flat black undercarriage … what were you thinking.
Oct 1, 2026 · 20:04
@BlitzLead- Unfortunately, "ownership" is also a used and abused term. Seems like this car should stand on its own, not who may, or may not, have owned it. Certainly has a lot going for it all on it's own.
Oct 1, 2026 · 19:57
@67Bullitt: not to antagonize Canadians any more than they already are but, if you're paying $2.69 Canadian per liter, that translates into about $7.14 US per gallon. Not that much worse than what we're paying here, and actually better than the average cost in California. Don't you feel much better now? :)
Oct 1, 2026 · 19:25
Provenance is a frequently used and abused term but, IMHO, this is an outstanding example of real automotive provenance. A Shelby that was owned by Carroll Shelby! Topping that, if that's actually possible, would most certainly exist only in the most rarified air, i.e., a Ferrari owned by Enzo Ferrari.

FWIW Anyone with an interest in this should read ALL the comments from the previous auction. The seller put a tremendous amount of effort and energy into answering any and all questions, including providing a detailed history.

Premium Fuel here in Canada is through the roof too... @1967Shelby...today Diesel is $2.69 a liter which converts to $9.80 cent per American gallon... Not sure where We are heading! Hope You are doing Well!!!
