@jmcnpapa
How do u unequivocally state that the 01 has the highest failure rate?
Especially when most cars manufactured during the 1st quarter of production had the dual row. My first 996 C4S Cab was 15 yrs old and had 55k miles and was all original. The 01 with 12k miles sitting in my garage now for the last 6 years is also all original with a magnetic drain plug and showing zero signs of metal during oil changes confirmed with an anaylsis done once a yr. Sure some have failed and unless u have the analytics for each one showing why (car not driven properly, not warmed up, lugging, not changing gears till 4k, etc) than u really need to temper ur non professional thoughts. Unless of course u work for a imsb related Co or Porsche shop that would benefit\profit from building fear?
I've owned the Ford 6.0 diesel w the EGR issues, Audi S8 with the turbo screen issue, I don't think I've ever owned a high end vehicle without some type of inherent build issue that could affect long term reliability, especially from the Porsche family... Cayanne turbo, 911 turbo, etc.
FWIW, that being said my 996's have been some of the most reliable, maintenance free outside of standard needs of any vehicle I have owned. I guess I'm just sick of every new potential buyer looking at his 1st 911 and the first question is ...........
Seller glwa and buyer I'm sure u will enjoy it and if the imsb is gonna make u wet the bed at night then do the imsb and enjoy.

IMS has not been replaced to my knowledge, but seeing the dry-ice cleaning on the underside, there is a chance it was done.
@jmcnpapa
I'll get a quote for the IMS and clutch replacement on Monday. We do offer 30 days of free storage to all winning bidders. I'll get a rate for the remainder of the storage period on Monday.
Best,
David

Hello again, would you have a secure place to store this until I get back down to my home in Boca Raton in late December and how much would that cost me?
jmcnpapa
Sep 11, 2026 · 17:11
I understand that the IMs has not been replaced as far as your knowledge. Since this model…, a 2001 flat six with low mileage is the most prevalent of ims failure, and you mentioned that you were full service shop, can you replace this bearing and how much would it cost, including the clutch?
Sep 11, 2026 · 14:49
Has the IMS bearing ever been replaced, and if so, is there an invoice showing what bearing was installed and at what mileage?
Sep 11, 2026 · 14:36
I’d take a well-kept older 911 over a newer car with no history any day.

Love the classic Fuchs wheels.

Judging by how other NR 996s have been performing here, this is the correct call. Good luck!
