1958 Porsche 356A Cabriolet
Presentation
This 1958 Porsche 356A is a Reutter-bodied cabriolet that has been refinished in Fjord Green over tan leather upholstery and is powered by a replacement 1,750cc flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Features include a tan convertible top, a luggage rack, 15″ steel wheels with polished hubcaps, lap belts, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. The car underwent a cosmetic refurbishment in 1987 and was acquired by the selling dealer on BaT in September 2021. This 356A is now offered with literature, a Hoffman-Porsche importation card, a copy of the original purchase invoice, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, service records dating back to 1987, the removed 1.6L flat-four, a front end cover, a tool kit, a spare set of polished Lemmerz wheels, fog light covers, and a Washington title, listing it as a 1959 model year.
Originally finished in black, the body was repainted Fjord Green in 1987, at which time the brightwork was also refinished. Features include a tan convertible top, driving lights, a rear luggage rack, and a driver-side mirror.
Silver-finished 15″ steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and are mounted with 165/80 Nankang CX-668 tires. Koni shocks are fitted.
The seats were reupholstered in tan leather during the refurbishment, and Simpson latch-and-link lap belts have been installed. Interior equipment includes rear leather luggage straps, a brown dash pad, sisal floor mats, a fire extinguisher, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM push-button radio.
The leather-wrapped two-spoke steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of a tachometer with a 4,500-rpm redline, a 120-mph speedometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil temperature, and oil pressure. A VDO clock with a second sweep and a VDO ambient temperature gauge are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 45k miles. The speedometer and tachometer were repaired in 1987.
The replacement 1,750cc flat-four features dual Zenith carburetors and was installed in 1996. An oil change was performed in August 2026. The removed 1.6L flat-four is mounted to a crate and included in the sale.

The 356A Cabriolet is a remarkably elegant car from every angle. The top-down profile is probably my favorite way to see it

One of the things I really enjoy about this car is how much presence it has in person. The color, chrome, and Cabriolet bodywork work beautifully together

Thanks for the question. The engine serial number on the removed original engine matches the number documented on the Porsche Kardex. I’ve added a clear photo of the stamping for reference. I’m not an expert on the subtle differences in the stamping pad or font, so I’ll leave that part to the 356 experts here to comment on.

Question for the very educated folks, the engine stamping on the original engine? Does this look correct as my car has a slightly different look to the pad and the stamps are not exactly the same? Just trying to learn

@convertparts We have a collection of more than 100 cars, so many of them see very limited mileage each year. This car has simply been one of those. It has been stored properly, maintained, and exercised periodically rather than used as a regular driver.
