400-Powered 1951 Mercury Eight Sport Coupe Lead Sled

This 1951 Mercury Eight Series-1CM sport coupe was purchased by the current owner in 2014 and underwent frame-off customization and restoration that was completed in 2019. The car is finished in Slate Grey and is powered by a rebuilt 402ci V8 paired with a column-shifted three-speed automatic transmission. The body has been extensively modified with a chopped roof, shaved trim and badging, door poppers, hood louvers, flush headlights and taillights, tinted windows, and painted bumpers. Additional equipment includes 22″ Vossen CV3 wheels, air suspension, Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, power-adjustable front seats, center consoles, and a Pioneer CD stereo. This Series-1CM Eight is now offered in Texas by the seller on behalf of its owner with a car cover and transferable New York registration.
The car is finished in Slate Grey and features extensively customized bodywork. The roof has been chopped, while the exterior handles have been removed and the body has been shaved of its badges and trim. The headlights and taillights have been flushed into the body, and the doors and trunk are opened via remote-operated buttons in place of exterior handles. Additional details include tinted windows, painted bumpers, a black-finished grille, a chrome slotted grille insert, and hood louvers.
Cracks and areas of bubbling in the paint are shown in the gallery. The passenger-side taillight requires remounting, while the turn-signal bulb and windshield-wiper motor also require attention. The door poppers and latches, hood latch, and trunk-release cable need adjustment.
The car rides on 22″ Vossen CV3 wheels with Nitto NT555 tires. Air suspension has been installed, with an air-pressure gauge mounted in the center console. Braking is provided by Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes. The front upper shock mounts could use rewelding, according to the seller, and a loose wire at the power-steering system requires attention.
Power-adjustable bucket seats with diamond-stitched inserts have been installed along with a custom console and matching door panels. The Pioneer stereo is linked to a custom sound system.
A waterfall-style console separates the rear seats.
