28-Years-Owned 1934 Auburn 850Y Cabriolet

This 1934 Auburn 850Y is clothed in cabriolet bodywork and is said to have been purchased from the family of its original owner by the seller’s father in 1998. The car subsequently underwent a refurbishment in the early 2000s and was shown at various events before being placed in storage in 2006. After a 2024 recommissioning, it was shown at an ACD Club Show in Cambria, California, where it received ACD certification. Finished in Pewter Metallic with black and red accents, the car is powered by a 280ci Lycoming inline-eight that is linked with a three-speed manual transmission and a dual-ratio rear axle. Additional features include four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, 16” red-painted wire wheels, an electric fuel pump, a black convertible top, red leather interior upholstery, and a rumble seat. Previously offered on BaT in May 2026, this 850Y cabriolet is now offered again by the seller on behalf of his father’s estate with ACD documentation and a clean California title.
The 1934 Auburn lineup carried the final design penned for the company by Alan Leamy and featured a split grille, streamlined fenders, and arched hood louvers. Produced only through July 1934, the range included six- and eight-cylinder models with a choice of four open or closed body styles.
Riding on a 126” wheelbase, this example’s cabriolet bodywork was refinished in the early 2000s in its current shade of Pewter Metallic with black and red accents converging in a “V” on the hood. The paintwork is said to have been touched up on several panels during the 2024 recommissioning. Features include a V-shaped front bumper, a raked folding windshield carrying dual side mirrors, rear-hinged doors, running boards, and a black convertible top.
Red-painted wire wheels wear bright hubcaps and beauty rings and are wrapped in 7.50-16 Lester wide-whitewall tires, while a spare is housed under a metal cover at the rear of the car. Stopping is handled by hydraulic drum brakes all around, and work on the brake system in 2024 is said to have included a rebuild of the master cylinder and flushing of the fluid.
The cabin is trimmed in red leather over a single bench seat with matching upholstery over the door panels and rumble seat. Additional features include color-matched carpeting, roll-up windows, door pockets, and a lockable glovebox with a door-mounted clock. The vacuum-operated windshield wipers are disconnected from the vacuum system.
The three-spoke steering wheel carries a switch for rear-end ratio selection and sits ahead of a black-painted dash accented by diamond-patterned panels. Instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a combination gauge monitoring coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles, approximately 500 of which have been added under current ownership.

My goodness gracious - it is the cat's meow. What a jaunty automobile. Room for two with the chaperone in the rumble seat. Just perfect.
