13k-Mile 1999 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster
Presentation
This 1999 Lamborghini Diablo VT roadster was specified with Chiaro Blue Metallic paintwork and Snowcorn leather upholstery, and its 5.7-liter V12 has been fitted with an aftermarket exhaust system and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a Viscous Traction all-wheel-drive system with front and rear limited-slip differentials. Riding on 18″ multi-piece alloy wheels, the car indicates 13k miles and is further equipped with an adjustable suspension, a removable hardtop, a rear wing, fixed headlights, scissor doors, fixed-back bucket seats, a front trunk-mounted amplifier, Alpine speakers, Brembo brakes, an Alpine stereo, and automatic climate control. This Diablo VT Roadster was purchased by the current owner in 2020 and is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner in North Carolina with the owner’s manual, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a Montana title.
The Marcello Gandini-designed Diablo underwent a mid-cycle refresh for 1999 and received fixed composite headlights sourced from the contemporary Z32 Nissan 300ZX. This example is finished in Chiaro Blue Metallic and has a removable hardtop that stores above the engine compartment, in addition to scissor doors, quad exhaust outlets, and fog lights. Imperfections are highlighted in the gallery, and the front end has been covered with paint protection film.
The 18″ multi-piece alloy wheels are mounted with Pirelli tires. The car was optioned with an adjustable suspension, and stopping power is provided by multi-piston Brembo calipers over cross-drilled rotors.
The cockpit features fixed-back bucket seats trimmed in Snowcorn leather upholstery along with a two-tone dashboard. Appointments include dual airbags, Alpine speakers, automatic climate control, a front trunk-mounted amplifier, and an Alpine stereo.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel is paired with a dogleg-pattern gated shifter and frames a 220-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 7,500-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, oil temperature, and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 13k miles, approximately 2,400 of which were added under current ownership. The tachometer assembly was replaced in July 2020.
The 5.7-liter V12 was factory rated at 522 horsepower and 466 lb-ft of torque. According to the seller, an engine-out service was performed approximately 300 miles ago, at which time the clutch was replaced and a replacement cylinder head gasket was fitted.

@igalmd, both my diablos were early cars, with only one set of cats from factory. For a while i was running full straight through exhaust, and it was loud enough to make satan's ears bleed. NOTHING like a Lamborghini V12 at full song.

also in that first picture, you can see the quicksilver resonators feeding a quicksilver "sport" exhaust, which is the best system to have IMO. If you wanted it louder, replace the resonators with straight pipes :)

those cats are the primary cats, there are also secondary cats which have been removed from this car. The first image below are quicksilver resonators (not cats). I am not sure if the car will pass smog with the secondary cats removed. Yes, the O2 sensor is still there, but that's needed by the LIE to control fuel/ignition. either way, no big deal, just slap some CATs in the place of those resonators and good to go.

It appears there are some available online, if someone would like to source them. As for the “warping” over the engine compartment, it doesn’t seem to have damaged the panel. The current owner after each drive would bring the car into the temperature controlled garage and open the cover so it could be put on the trickle charger along with releasing the heat. I personally didn’t notice anything unusual or misaligned with the panel when opening or closing it.

I have this one’s “older brother”, ‘97, same spec. Have owned it for 20+ years, have put over 50,000 MILES on her. Impeccable maintenance by Driven Exotics, she runs and drives great. Two questions I think bidders need to know the answers to: do you have the “roadster roof plugs”? Do not see them in any of the photos when the roof is not on the cockpit. And how is the engine bonnet “warping” from the heat? If you don’t release the bonnet to help the heat escape when you shut the engine off, it bows or warps the bonnet. (Pics #52, 61, 92, 110). It’s a problem specific to the Roadster due only having the small triangular vent in the bonnet rather than the six big louvres in a coup.

but even if the car doesnt have cats, you can easily get a set made by grafting cats onto a set of test pipes, and it will blow clean enough to pass CA smog (assuming healthy engine). Yes, technically it would fail a visual inspection, but there is no way to see the setup with the deck lid on, and no tech is going to know teh difference.

However, not sure if this car has cats or not. the quick silver exhaust system has two parts, the "twisty" section which sits between the secondary cats and the tailpipe. I can see that in the pictures, its a straight through pipe for both banks. the second part, you can also buy QS test pipes (straight pipes that take the place of the secondary cats), or "resonators" (also straight pipes that take the place of the secondary cats, but with chambers to reduce the sound.), I have had just about all the exhaust systems, and i like the QS "twisty" with the QS resonators, good balance of power and sound (without exploding ear drums).
if @ seller can get more pics from under the car, or better yet remove the rear deck and heat shield, then you would know the exact setup.

@jimbis They have not been serviced under the current ownership. However, Cats Exotics in Washington stated that the car received new front shocks approximately 150 miles before it was offered for sale in 2020.

@jimbis Nope, everything works exactly as it should. The windows go up and down, the A/C blows cold, and all latches and handles function properly. All gauges work, along with the radio and lights. There’s nothing stopping the new owner from taking delivery and immediately heading out for a drive.

The VT Roadster is a car that you need to experience in person to really understand how special it is. In my personal opinion it’s also one of the easiest cars to remove the top on and enjoy the fresh air. Having the option of storing the roof above the rear engine cover makes it so much easier than having to find a safe place to store it in a garage or home.

I own a 98 Diablo roadster I agree with all the other comments, easy to drive, power steering,good visibility great performance and I could go on and on I love driving it. I have the stock exhaust and it’s on my plate to replace it to get a great sound out of it. I love the color combination. It’s magnificent. Good luck to both the buyer and seller. i have a 99 vt coupe and seeing these great pics i just took mine out for a bit and it pulls so strong if youve driven a diablo than you know how rewarding it is nothing like them there very fast im shocked to see these cars are not a mill yet very limited made and easy to drive i can have a stressful day and just seeing it brings a big smile to my face and after a drive its the best therapy who ever buys this one is gonna be a new lucky owner when diablos come on the market especially a 99 thats a rare find

For anyone considering this car, I have owned my 99 VT Roadster for 4 years now, have put 2k miles on it.
Similar to this car, my car is well maintained and I have had zero issues. The car starts every time, and is surprisingly easy to drive and very comfortable. It's one of the few super cars my wife enjoys driving in.
It is also VERY fast, even by today's standards and surprisingly nimble - it's not the lightest feeling car, but it is an incredible cruiser and kills on the long sweeping turns, but is also still fun on the back roads (but it's not a 911 or mid-engine ferrari).
As noted below these are also insanely rare:
Total VT Roadsters - 466
US VT Roadsters - 180
99' USA VT Roadsters - 105
Add in the low miles and this color combo - an opportunity will probably not come up again for a while.
I will also say I own an F40 and this car gets just as many jaw drops from people - probably because they are way rarer!

I can answer those! For the marks in the front bumper while inspecting I believe it’s all in the PPF itself. They don’t seem to be covered. You can physically feel them in the PPF but it doesn’t seem it went through the film itself down to the paint. I will work on getting better photos so you can see it closely.
I see what you are talking about on the headlights. That’s actually corners where the PPF has lifted a little bit. I will work on getting you more photos, but on both corners there’s a small amount of lift. The white haze is from the film. I see how it looks like silver underneath.
As for the tire losing air, the wheel was repaired by an independent wheel specialist. It hasn’t leaked since then.

@seller .. can you comment on following questions:
1) the front end of the car and the imperfection seen on pictures you posted - i notice front bumper, part of the hood, and front lower diffuser seems to have rock chip dings and scratches. Are those on top of the PPF (stated installed on the front of the car) or below it?
2) your close up pics of the headlights … can you share even closer as it looks like the stationary hood section of headlights (edge above the physical lights) the color is worn out and exposing metal below paint. Appreciate if you can share close-up pictures of those areas on both headlight sections.
3). Service record you provided states the one of the wheels has an issue and recommendation was to replace if one can be found. Can you elaborate more on that?

love the 99 and last year of the roadster and so little made,updated dash 530 plus hp.perfection if i was in the market 99/01 are my fav years with all the upgrades and very limited made,beautiful color combo and super low miles,driving a diablo is soo rewarding im on my 3rd nothing like them and great time to buy a real 90s supercar thats so undervalued

Really fantastic car! Need to correct the production numbers. Just under 105 total 1999 final year Diablo Roadster examples were made for the USA market. This includes the 12 MOMO editions and the 12 MILLENNIUM editions. Only 10 cars were produced in Bleu Chiaro and this is probably 1 of 2 or so that are in collector quality condition. Based on our records, there’s less than 20 collector grade 1999 USA Spec Diablo Roadsters left. Most have 30,000 miles, a bad CarFax or have been salvaged. This car is gold, Curated is sad we could not buy it before the auction, we tried. : )

Washington. This is 1 of only 27 Roadster VT’s produced for the American market in 1999. The
current owner has added about 2000+ miles since purchasing the car along with having an
engine out service completed by Lamborghini Charlotte in 2020. This car comes ready for the
next owner! Please note that in some of the photos the passenger side front tire might look a
little low on air. The tire was down a few pounds, and was aired back up for the rest of the

This Diablo VT Roadster, wearing Chiaro Blue Metallic over Snowcorn (!), is absolutely stunning, and way too cool for school. Awesome example - GLWTA!
