1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S
Presentation
This 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S is one of approximately 176 examples produced for the US market, and it was specified in Guards Red over a black leather interior with heated and power-adjustable hard-back sport seats. A twin-turbocharged 3.6L flat-six drives all four wheels through a six-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip differential. The car is equipped with larger turbochargers than the standard Turbo as well as an extra oil cooler, integrated quarter panel intakes, revised exterior aerodynamics, and larger brakes with yellow calipers. Additional features include 18″ hollow-spoke “Technology” wheels, xenon headlights, red seatbelts, carbon-fiber interior trim, and a CD stereo. Purchased by the seller in 2022, this 993 Turbo S shows 24k miles and is offered with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the owner’s manual, service records, a damage-free Carfax report, and Connecticut registration.
All Turbo S models were built by the Porsche Exclusive department with quarter panel intakes, yellow brake calipers, a four-tipped exhaust system, and an Aerokit front spoiler with revised venting and fog light placement. This example is finished in Guards Red (80K) and also features a power sunroof, a rear window wiper, biplane rear spoiler, and xenon headlights with washers. Paint protection film has been applied to areas of the body, and the quarter panels have been refinished.
The 18″ hollow-spoke “Technology” wheels are mounted with Michelin tires. The car features an Automatic Brake Differential (ABD), and the 993 was the first 911 to feature multi-link rear suspension. Braking is managed by ventilated and cross-drilled rotors paired with yellow Porsche-branded four-piston calipers all around.
The heated and power-adjustable hard-back sport seats feature body-color shells and are trimmed in black leather, which extends to the dash, center console, doors, and rear seats. Carbon-fiber trim adorns the interior, and additional features include automatic climate control, a CD stereo, cruise control, red seatbelts, and stainless-steel Turbo S-branded door sill guards. The climate control unit was replaced in 2026.
The leather and carbon-fiber-trimmed steering wheel frames a central tachometer, a 200-mph speedometer, an analog Quarz clock, and gauges for oil pressure, oil temperature, oil level, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 24k miles, approximately 600 of which were added under current ownership. The Carfax report lists a mileage inconsistency in August 2026, though it notes that it may be the result of a clerical error, and an email from Penske Porsche stating the mileage was entered incorrectly when the car was in for service is shown in the gallery.
The twin-turbocharged 3.6L flat-six features larger turbochargers, an additional oil cooler, and a modified Motronic engine management system when compared to the standard 993 Turbo. It produced 424 horsepower and 423 lb-ft of torque when new. An engine-out service was completed in 2023, at which time the drive belts, right camshaft cover, right timing chain cover seal, power steering pulley, and drive belts were replaced. The battery was replaced in 2025, and the oil was changed and a compression test was completed in 2026.

I didn't want to distract anyone at the end of the auction or influence any bids, but wanted to simply update that Carfax is still working on the case I submitted and I will update the auction again after it is complete.
I had hoped they would finish BEFORE the auction concluded, but obviously I don't control them or their schedules.
Huge congratulations to @seller and @Gosmarte!

Thanks for the response Frank. It was pretty much what I expected but wanted to hear for sure. Although I tried to convey the idea about the car "not being as responsive as it used to" for longer term owners who have a reference point, you nailed it with the "butt dyno" reference. Touché.
Always good to hear your expertise on these cars.

@BillG993, I can only speak from our experience. We typically only do compression tests if we're evaluating for a PPI or if there's a running problem where we suspect a broken valve spring. The best advice I can give is butt dyno, test cylinder leak down, and READ the spark plugs to get a sense of overall engine condition.
Stunning car!

Beautiful copy. Can't say I've seen many GR S versions.
Also wondered about the repair order on the transmission. The G50 in general, and the variant in the turbos, is historically known to be bullet proof? Kind of looks like it was rebuilt?

@Stim4U
Regarding your question on compression tests: I think the answer varies a lot and there is no general rule regarding time or how often. I would think on higher mileage cars in general, it would be good to have it done to make sure everything is in order. But it depends on so many factors, how well the car was cared for and if regularly serviced with a full history, etc. I think it more relevant whether car is experiencing excessive oil consumption or some other symptom that might be indicative of a problem, etc. I think most would agree that a leak down is more telling, but having a full service history available and no signs of an issue may be enough not to need one performed. However, when changing hands though, it does give the prospective buyer comfort as to whether there might be some major work required so it can be factored into the purchase price, as history on these cars can never be fully known. I would love to hear what Frank @beckseuropean thinks about your question as to "how often", given the hundreds that he has worked on or have passed through his hands. For longer term owners, if the car just doesn't feel as "responsive as it used to" and oil consumption has increased, my guess is that it may be time for the tests to be performed just to see if anything becomes evident.
Curious what you found on the transmission issue regarding that last invoice. Pic #210 only shows a portion of the invoice and no explanation as to what the real issue was. Did they have a conclusion as to why the fluid was "surprisingly dark"? I'm a bit surprised at such low miles the transmission needed work.
The 993TTS is such a beautiful car and this is a great color combo as well. Always nice to see a turbo S with the Hardback Sports Seats.

I believe I was the second owner of this car. Purchasing it in August of 2001 in Florida. My friend and I flew from John Wayne Airport in Orange County Ca on the red eye to Orlando Florida. I remember the car had 1900 miles on it and after paper work and fueling headed out that morning back to Anahiem California where my friend lived.
We drove straight through. It took us only 53 hours total. After being totally exhausted and we finally got a hotel room in Houston for 9 hours of the trip. We saw 145 in west Texas and many times over 100. An amazing automobile, I miss it. Steve

Yes indeed, a beautiful car in this combo. Looking forward to seeing where this ends up.
@MPM97turbo has the right intuition on the mats. They are not the factory black with red script mats that came with the car, but could possibly be OEM sourced from Lloyd Mats at some point. They are definitely a custom mat and not sure if Lloyd would make a different configuration for you if requested, but note the cutouts for the pedals, the stock mat didn't have those as they came up to the pedal area but not up and around them. Also, the mat does not have the OEM grommet hole for fastening to floor mount and the lower edges are not shaped as OEM, so most likely the owner at the time found someone to make these.
Interesting story on the OEM mats with the Porsche crest embroidered into the mat. Porsche notified their manufacturers (Lloyd Mats in USA) in late 2000s they didn't like the idea of people having their shoes on the crest, so by 2010/11 they pulled the license from them and they were no longer able to sell them that way. Lloyd had the license for only the script mats after that until around 2021 when the licenses were pulled by Porsche.

Out of the pure interest of keeping this amazing 993TTS impeccable with regards to its Carfax history, I am using the data reported here and submitting a Carfax case to correct the mileage inconsistency. I'll let you know how it goes. I am not affiliated with the car or seller at all, but I'm good at resolving these matters with Carfax and this car fully deserves that so that its history is correct.

@Stim4u I believe you mean deduct 8-10 mils (.008" - .010") on paint meter readings. 8-10mm would be 5/16" to 3/8" thick film.

Couple updates. The car history is not completely know to me. Has been cared by several reputable motor vendors: Park palace (OR/WA), Miller motor cars (CT), and Houston motors(TX). I personally have put 600 miles on the car and she drives perfectly. The paint meter readings are pending, Snappr has not shared them yet. Remember to deduct 8-10mm on the whole body PPF (placed roughly 4 years ago-but in good shape/no discoloration), majority of panels are 2-3mm under the PPF. Rear quarter panels were refinished by Houston motor works for rock chips. Hope that helps...

Really like G-red/black combo (my first 95 993 coupe was same). lowish miles. red hard back sport seats. and the factory red Turbo S mats. pretty much perfection. Right @BillG993? @MPM97turbo

small detail: US 993 turbo S are not equipped with larger turbochargers than the standard Turbo.
Only ROW 993 turbo S have bigger K24 turbochargers. And more power ;-)

I had a coworker who daily drove one of these. It turns out the trick is to get hired //before// Microsoft acquires the company.
