50k-Mile 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet 6-Speed
Presentation
This 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet was purchased circa 2000 by the seller, who has since added ~39k of its 50k miles. Powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six paired with a six-speed manual transaxle, the car is finished in Zenith Blue Metallic over gray leather upholstery. Equipment includes a gray soft top, 18″ Turbo Twist wheels, power-adjustable front seats, a cassette stereo, cruise control, and air conditioning. This 993 Carrera cabriolet is offered with a clean Carfax report and a clean Utah title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Zenith Blue Metallic and features a replacement power-retractable gray soft top as well as fog lights, power-adjustable mirrors, a speed-activated rear spoiler, a “basket handle” fixed rear spoiler with an integrated third brake light, and dual exhaust outlets. Scratches have been repaired, and the seller notes blemishes on the soft top.
The 18″ Turbo Twist wheels have been refinished and are mounted with Continental ExtremeContact tires. Koni dampers were installed in 2025, and braking is handled by Porsche-branded calipers over cross-drilled rotors at all four corners.
The power-adjustable front seats are upholstered in gray leather and complemented by a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpeting. Amenities include cruise control, a cassette stereo, and air conditioning. A battery cutoff switch is mounted in the front trunk.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a central tachometer with a 6,800-rpm redline, a 180-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for oil pressure, oil temperature, oil level, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 50k miles, approximately 39k of which were added under current ownership.
The air-cooled 3.6L M64 flat-six features a VarioRam intake system and was factory rated at 282 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. A carbon cleaning service was performed, and the crankshaft position sensor, starter, spark plugs and wires, fuel hose, timing chain cover gasket, and hydraulic lifters were replaced in 2025.

The brown oil coating is Cosmoline. It’s a petroleum based rust inhibitor sprayed on at the factory.

The shop was Motorsporte and the owner is Garrity, both are well known are Garrity is available to speak to the vehicle (the shop phone is listed on the service record).

@gottatrailer911 Do you mean in general, or something specific? There are no current leaks, you can check the service record files to see what was completed. Also, the mechanic that has worked on the car for the last nearly nearly 20 years (since moving to UT) is well known in the Porsche community and available to provide a reference/statement.

I just spent five figures updating it (see file with service records) - so I would answer not much needs anything. The top is in its last years (I think it can last 2-3 more maybe) as it has the small blemishes (as noted in photos, and happy to FaceTime live).

Ok, understood about the exemption from mileage reporting in UT. There are a lot of those listed. There are also a few Correction to Records on CarFax. Do you know what those represent? If you were to keep this car long term, is there anything else you would fix or replace in its current condition?

@jlamph1957 The emblem/shield centerpiece came unglued from two of the original caps, I don't have them any longer. The A/C is typical for a 993, not all that strong.

@leomb-adequate paint meters are available on Amazon for less than $150 and you can have one tomorrow. Likely will return multiples of that to you upon sale. I believe there is already a painted modification with the rear split grill. Thank you and GLWTA, again a beautiful car that should generate good interest.

@kkCsepel13 That would explain why I had no idea what he was asking about in the second half of his question. As for the first part about 50k miles being an estimate, it is, as the actual is exactly 49,697 as shown in Photo #221. But, even in my other new or brand new cars I have never had DMV ask for an odometer reading at renewal (I live full time in UT).

@NinerDude, in Utah, older cars are exempt from odometer reading so it seems like every time the registration is renewed on this car, they report exempts from odo reading, standard in UT.

Photo #221 shows the odometer and the reading 48,627 (it's now 49,697 exactly - happy to do a live FaceTime with you - or anyone with serious interest - to show you this or any other detail). I don't at all understand your comment about DMV notices... I have never received any notice of issue/problem or failure to comply from DMV and can share registration documentation from every year since moving to UT in 2009 - please advise on this question?

Carfax looks straightforward but please provide as much detail as possible about the odometer reading and the numerous DMV notices about the mileage not being recorded. Is the 50K just an estimate? thanks.
