As I’ve said a few times before, I’m a serious fan of McLaren. Like Lexus with the LFA they don’t always read the market but their best cars are amazing. No, more than amazing.
I remember when the F1 was released. It wasn’t widely accepted. I think Leno bought his discounted about 20% off list with a couple thousand miles on the clock. But serious racers loved it and got McLaren to build the F1 GTR which I think was the only reverse homologated winner at La Mans. What’s funny is that the GTR had less horsepower than the original F1. Yeah, rules.
I would include the Senna but it’s design is so busy it reminds me of the C8. p.s. I don’t need any hate comments, it’s just my opinion.
The P1 is period great. One of the 3 hybrid amigos but not my favorite McLaren.
The F1 Speedtail is so beautiful and unique I have to ignore the hybrid add on. No one asked any of us to buy one. They were all sold before built. Unlike the original F1 this is not a race car it’s a piece of art.
And now let’s talk about this Elva. It’s a non-hybrid beast. 2500 lbs and 800 hp. In Mclaren style they released it without a windscreen. Wear your googles man! And then COVID hit. The combination of unconventional design ideas and bad luck made Mclaren lower production from 399 to 149. Bad luck for McLaren, good luck for McLaren collectors.
Look at this design, the heritage, the happenstance of rarity and the timing. In another decade, no one I would take seriously will doubt the respect this car deserves.
