In May I was able to take my C6 to a NASA track weekend. My first. The NASA coach they paired me with had this car.
He is about 70. He said he’s been doing HDPE and TTs for decades. He said this was his 20th vette in his life - owning most generations. I asked the easy question - “Which one is your favorite?” With a smile and no hesitation… “This one.”
On the second day I said - “Any way I could ride with you?” We made that happen.
We get to the grid and I watch him punch a few settings to dial it as he likes. Then we were off.
“I’m going to take this at 80% because I don’t want you trying to copy me next time you are out.”
The car was extremely nimble on the track and the transmission surprised me with how it instantly downshifted matched with the braking and speed so that it was ready for full throttle after the turn.
The engine in back was a first for me - the front visibility was great and the roar from the back was just right.
He did say he pulled off the ceramic brakes and factory wheels to swap in AP racing brakes on older C8 rims he had. “I like the AP brakes because they are more affordable to track.”
